EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING

All About Executive Functions

The frontal lobe in our brain is the source of our executive functions (essentially our thinking skills). Our brain's ability to plan, organize, manage time, follow directions and focus are all executive functions mediated by our frontal lobe. Our brain's natural plasticity (ability to change and grow) allows us to help students strengthen their executive functioning through school-skill support, life-skills practice, and organizational tools.
What happens when Executive Functioning is a challenge?

One of the most common indicators of weak executive functioning is difficulty with initiating tasks. This can refer to homework, chores, or even multi-step directions. You may also observe that your child has difficulty remembering things or keeping track of their belongings. Impulsive actions, disorganized thoughts or emotions can be common as well.
